| But in the same article, a plea is usually made to members of the congregation not to forget their giving to the church over the summer. Reminders are made that bills have to be paid and payroll needs to be met, even during the summer, and that it’s important to remember the church while you are away. Even church councils begin dreading the summer months as early as the April meeting, anticipating dwindling attendance as well as dwindling finances. They start planning for the fall, more or less skipping over the summer months. |
Think for a moment how it would be if our Lord Jesus treated us the same way. What if we became an afterthought? What if He made appearances just at Christmas and Easter? What if we had to get all of our prayers in before the summer months, and then had to hold on until the fall? Or think of it this way; when Jesus walked the earth with his disciples, what if he took the summer “off” and just spent his time doing carpentry or fishing? Instead of settling in for the same summer routine this year, why not try something new this summer? |
We have our worship at 9:30 each Sunday morning. We have learned the new setting six from the new hymnals! Perhaps you could pick a new place to sit in the sanctuary during the summer. Plan on introducing yourself to some members of the congregation you don’t yet know. Volunteer to usher, or be a lector, program the large screen, or help out in other ways. Make the summer a real chance to reconnect with St. Stephen and your Lord. We look forward to seeing you! |
